How Often Should I Have Cervical Screening?
NHS cervical screening is now offered every 5 years, following the introduction of HPV testing, which is highly accurate at identifying those at increased risk of cervical cancer. For women at low risk, this safely allows longer intervals between tests.
Some women, however, prefer the reassurance of more frequent screening. At Hurst Menopause and Wellness Clinic, we offer flexible cervical screening options, including annual smears if desired, along with personalised reminder emails and recall support to help you stay up to date with your health checks.
Routine NHS screening typically ends at age 64, as the likelihood of developing cervical cancer is very low in women with consistently normal results and no HPV. If you would prefer to continue cervical screening beyond this age, we are happy to arrange ongoing private smears for continued peace of mind.
